With a unique layout, this building is located on a building plot with an acute angle defined by Rua Professor Augusto Nobre and Rua de Cima, it is also located on the steepest part of the street, which makes the building stand out even more.
The surrounding area presents an urban profile characterized by detached single family houses. On the adjacent terrain the Cooperativa de Lordelo do Ouro´s building is distinguished by its strong volumetric and material presence.
Fighting against this tendency, our project aims to freed itself from these constraints as an autonomous piece with a distinct formal presence and language.
The volume seeks to respond to the intersection of the two strong directions defined by the axes that circumvent it, with rotations on the 2nd and 3rd floors materialized in a cantilever body over the street, in order to direct these large openings to different directions framing specific landscape views. This rotation is reinforced by the coating of these volumes, due to their irregular geometry evidenced by the markedly vertical materiality of the zinc roofing. This is particularly noticeable in the north-east side, due to the stone finishing of the remaining façade.
On the south-facing façade, stone is used to define the base of the building, on which appears to lie a whole zinc volume, from the ground floor to the rooftop. Against what would be the predictable, we decided to expand this materiality to the whole façade, reinforcing its aesthetic and formal singularity.
The result is an architectural object, different from the surroundings, which assumes itself as an exception thus creating a new reference for the urban space.
